Israel: Increased Smuggling Ahead of Tishrei Yomim Tovim


wtiWith Tishrei on the horizon officials in the Ministry of Agriculture report there is a sharp increase in efforts to smuggle items into Green Line Israel from PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas. PA farmers are well aware this is a heavy shopping season in Israel. Officials in the ministry explain that in a regular month there may be 25 attempts to bring food into Israel, the weeks before and during the Tishrei Yomim Tovim will see a 20% increase in smuggling.

During a weekend raid in Petach Tikvah involving inspectors from a number of agencies including the Ministries of Health and Agriculture. Inspectors found 10,500 illegal eggs bearing a forged approval stamp on their shells, 50 jars of fake honey, 30 bottles of fake olive oil and other items. All of the items confiscated originated in PA areas.

Needless to say the items pose a threat to the health of one’s neshama and body and they were destroyed.
