Machpelah’s Ulam Yitzchak Closed to Jews on Erev Yom Kippur

machpelahWhile the Ulam Yitzchak (Yitzchak Hall) in the Ma’aras HaMachpelah in Hebron has been opened to Jewish mispallalim on erev Yom Kippur in recent years, this will not be the case this year and Yom Kippur coincides with the Muslim Feast of the Sacrifice.

It is reported that while Israeli authorities wanted to permit Jews into the site on erev Yom Kippur, the move was blocked by the sharp protests aired by Waqf Authority officials.

Machpelah officials point out this will lead to severe overcrowding on erev Yom Kippur, adding there is no connection to the closure and the Muslim holiday but this is the decision that has been made.

  1. I don’t get it, why are the Muslims interested in Yitzchak Avinu on Sarifice Day, or whatever their yomtov is. Don’t they hold that it was Bro’ Yishmael who went up the mountain with Papa Avraham and Yitzchak stayed down with the donkey?
