Approval has been given to name streets in Ramat Beit Shemesh after Gedolei Yisrael, including HaGaon HaRav Sholom Elyashiv ZATZAL, HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef, HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Halevy Wosner ZATZAL , and HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach ZATZAL . A meeting of the relevant city officials headed by Mayor Mosher Abutbul, who serves as chairman of the committee, gave the approval for the street names.

Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel 2, with about 2,000 housing units, will be called “Kiryat Chazon Ovadia” in memory of HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L. Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel 1 was already named in memory of Maran Avi HaEzer ZT”L.

Mayor Abutbul, affiliated with Shas, added Maran R’ Ovadia was close to Beit Shemesh and he visited the city on dozens of occasions and give shiurim as well.
