Cultivating Tomorrow’s Leaders

ckd[COMMUNICATED CONTENT]

In 1877, Reb Yisroel Salanter was inspired to found a kollel with the objective of developing fully-trained communal leaders, who would be well-versed in hora’ah, and whose character would be honed by the lessons of mussar. With that in mind, he started the famed Kovno Kollel. It opened with ten yungerleit and eventually produced Torah giants such as the Alter of Novardok, Reb Yaakov Kamenetsky, and Reb Dovid Lebowitz.

Based on that model, a kollel known as The Center for Kehilla Development (CKD), was founded two years ago in Yerushalayim. Exceptional avreichim interested in eventually working in Rabbanus, chinuch, or kiruv, have been awarded a five-year stipend to learn and develop their kochos in the CKD Kollel. The avreichim are given an unprecedented opportunity to grow in Torah and Yiras Shomayim.

CKD was founded by Rabbi Leib Kelemen שליט”א and its staff includes Rabbi Yosef Kamenetsky שליט”א, Rabbi Asher Weiss שליט”א, Rabbi Efrayim Kirshenbaum שליט”א, and other well known talmidei chochomim and poskim in Eretz Yisrael.  Avreichim at CKD study halacha during morning seder and learn Gemara bekius at a quick pace in the afternoon seder.  They also receive focused lessons in inyanei chinuch and sholom bayis from b’keyim in Eretz Yisroel. To ensure that they are well prepared for communal service, they attend special seminars in counseling and crisis intervention from recognized experts in the field.

Last year, all CKD avreichim received smicha from Rav Shlomo Zalman Ulman שליט”א of Bnei Brak and earned some of the highest marks on the smicha exams given by the Rabbanut (known to be amongst the most demanding of such bechinos). The current CKD avreichim, who are now enjoying the privilege of five years of learning in Yerushalayim ih”k, are hard-working and idealistic, and will iy”h assume communal positions upon leaving the kollel.

If you are age 25-30, married, and focussed on eventually being involved with rabbanus, chinuch, or kiruv, and are interested in spending five years in this amazing kollel in Yerushalayim starting this coming Elul, please visit the kollel at www.c4kd.org.
