Chareidi Elected Officials Meet To Discuss Public Transportation On Shabbos

4Shas leader Aryeh Deri and Degel Hatorah faction leader Moshe Gafne met in the office of Agudas Yisrael faction member Yaakov Litzman on Monday 14 Sivan to discuss ongoing worrisome efforts to launch public bus service in cities around the country on Shabbos R”L.

Last week, YWN-ISRAEL reported free bus service in Herzliya on Shabbos, a service being funded by Herzliya City Hall. Similar service is offered in other cities including Holon. Clearly, there is an increasing effort to permit buses to run on Shabbos in non-chareidi and religious areas to benefit non-religious residents wishing to avail themselves of such a service.

Back in May 2015 secularists in Jerusalem began the ‘Shabus’ effort, hoping to launch Friday night bus service in the capital.

The chareidi parties have announced that they will fight a tenacious battle to protect kedushas Shabbos and the religious status-quo.

  1. What’s to discuss? It should be prohibited unless there’s an emergency and there should be designated vehicles that say Hatzolah on them
