Jerusalem City Councilmen Turn To Mayor Barkat Demanding Better Working Conditions


1Member of the Jerusalem City Council turned to Mayor Nir Barkat demanding improved work conditions. The letter was signed by chareidi councilmen, including Yitzchak Pindrus, Eliezer Ruchberger, Pini Ezra, and Yochanan Weisman.

In their letter they explain that they are working full time but on a volunteer basis, while other are deputy mayors and receive a wage package and benefits. They explain over 30 councilmen serving on the council are in need of equal benefits.

The councilmen explain “there are some who are privileged in the council while others are not in that club”.

Their demands include:

· Free parking around the city

· Arranged parking for all councilmen at all city functions

· Permission to use the ‘special elevator’ in City Hall

· Equality for all councilmen

· Equal opportunity for all councilmen to attend continuing professional education

· Tickets for city events and transportation
