Simcha Felder To Remain With Senate GOP; Democrats Not Happy

feldBrooklyn Democrat State Sen. Simcha Felder is, once again, giving support to Republican lawmakers to help keep them in control of the 63-member New York state Senate.

Felder, who since winning office in 2012 has always conferenced with the chamber’s Republicans, seemed to put to rest thoughts that he might go another way in 2017 by declaring in an interview with Time Warner Cable News’ Liz Benjamin that he would remain allied with the GOP regardless of the outcomes of two still-contested Senate races on Long Island.

“I’ve been with (the GOP) before, and I’d have to have a compelling reason to leave,” Felder told Benjamin in a Sunday interview that was reported online Monday morning. Felder said that while he had spoken with mainline Democratic leaders, the conference had failed to come up with a sufficiently juicy package of such reasons to switch sides.

Senate Democrats were not quite as pleased. “Any Democrat who joins with Donald Trump’s Republican Party enables his continuing assault on immigrants, women, people of color, people of different faiths and our shared American values. History will harshly judge those who put their personal political gain above taking a stand for justice at this critical juncture for our nation,’’ said Mike Murphy, a spokesman for the Senate Democrats.

  1. So the Dems couldn’t come up with a sufficient “incentive package” to pay off this political hack to vote with the rest of the party. Thats fine. He doesn’t need a “compelling reason” to vote with the Dems other than the fact he ran as a Democrat.

  2. #1 he also ran as a Republican, and the DEMS line is already getting tired of attacks on “people of color” which is I guess not racist while “colored people” is? Who is the arbiter of these things?

  3. History will harshly judge those who put their personal political gain above taking a stand for justice at this critical juncture for our nation,’’ said Mike Murphy,
Remember that Mr Murphy. The Dems should be held responsible.
