Once Again, Israel Bows to Pressure and Launches Investigations

It does not take too much for Israel to succumb to international pressure these days and once again, the enemies of the Jewish state can chalk up a victory. Israel has appointed retired High Court Justice Yaakov Tirkel to head a probe into the flotilla commando operation, and Giora Eiland, a former National Security Advisor has been instructed to probe IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi regarding the same operation.

As in the past, the Foreign Ministry and other government agencies release video footage and other facts to support its claim, but when the voice of the international community reaches a certain decibel level, Israel begins probing and re-probing towards satisfying her enemies, an unachievable task as was seen in instances in the past.

One of the criticisms against Ashkenazi is that he was not present in the ‘Bor’ (underground command center in the Defense Ministry) when the Shayetet 13 commandos landed on the Mavi Marama, and it appears for some, the fact that the commander of the Israel Navy, Admiral Eliezer Marom was out at sea personally overseeing the operation was insufficient, seeking a scapegoat perhaps to satisfy the anti-Israel appetite of the international community.

It should be pointed out that the operation was not deemed a General Staff operation and the IDF commander does not generally remain in the Bor command center making decisions. The decisions in such a case are made by senior officers, in this case, the commander of the IDF Navy.
