Study: NYC Employee Health Care Plans On The Decline

A new study shows a sharp decline in the proportion of New Yorkers who have health insurance through their jobs.

Just 58 percent of New Yorkers are covered by employee-sponsored healthcare.

That’s down from 69 percent less than 10 years ago.

Researchers say that although 70 percent of employers continue to offer health care coverage in New York, fewer employees are eligible for the coverage.

More costs have been shifted to workers and fewer employees are choosing to buy into available health care coverage.

The report by the New York State Health Foundation says government-subsidized health care is slowing the state’s economic recovery and leaving more families without health insurance.
