Israel Preparing For A Wave Of Tourists In Tishrei


Over 3.6 million tourists visited Israel in 5771. Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov stated that “Despite geopolitical realities, the Ministry of Tourism has met its goals, namely an increase in the number of tourists and expansion of the tourism industry towards bringing NIS billions into the local economy.

According to Misezhnikov, over 300,000 tourists are expected to land in Israel during Tishrei, and most will be using local hotels and visiting tourism attractions and holy sites.

The local tourism industry continues to grow, with the ministry pointing out that over 3.6 million visits were documented in 5771, representing a 17% increase from the previous year. Over 3 million of them spent more than one night in the county, representing a 21% increase. The largest concentration during a one month period was between the end of Tishrei and the end of Cheshvan (October), with 404,000 entries recorded.

The most significant increase during the year ending was cruises, recording 208,000 visitors, an increase of 68% as compared to a year earlier. The main source of visitors is the United States with 630,000 visitors, an increase of 19% as compared to the previous year, followed by Russia with 560,000, an increase of 25%. Third place goes to France with 290,000, an increase of 25% as well.

Tourism Ministry officials report that are in contact with hotels to make certain they are prepared for the influx of visitors, as well as checking tourist and religious sites to make certain they are prepared for the anticipated visitors.

  1. I don’t see how they are preparing for this. i’ve been going for the last few years to israel for tishrey, they always say they are expecting thousands of tourist, but there still isn’t seder on the streets, traffic and at the holy sites.
