Attorney Working To Have Both Sides Withdraw Appeals In Azariya Case

Prominent attorney Moshe Yisrael has received authority from Elor Azariya’s defense attorney, Yoram Sheftal, to negotiate on his behalf. According to a Yediot Achronot report, Yisrael is working to have both the defense and prosecution drop the appeals filed in the case of the manslaughter trial, which resulted in a conviction and an 18-month prison term. He is quoted explaining he gives his mission top priority, which also includes negotiating to have the manslaughter conviction dropped as well.

Sheftal tells the press the prosecution has been hinting if the defense drops the appeal, it would be willing to reduce the sentence as well.

Time is of the essence as the next hearing pertaining to the appeals has already been set for May before the IDF Court of Appeals, which will be presided over by civilian justices; National Labor Court President Yigal Plitman and Jerusalem District Court Justice Tzvi Segal. Two senior IDF officers will also be serving on the judicial panel.

  1. I DON’T KNOW IF AZARIYA HAS THE RIGHT TO DROP OUT OF THE ARMY OR NOT, BUT IF HE DOES, ONCE HE IS FREE, THAT IS WHAT HE SHOULD DO. HE WOULD BE SENDING A MESSAGE TO ALL POTENTIAL VOLUNTEERS THAT UNTIL THE GOVT, CHANGES ITS ATTITUDE IN CASES LIKE THIS, THOSE WHO VOLUNTEER FOR ARMY SERVICE ARE FOOLS.
