30 Children From A Jerusalem Daycare Hit With Intestinal Illness


On this past Sunday, a mother of a child who attends an Emunah daycare center that one child in the class has severe abdominal pains and a virus.

According to the Ynet report, the events led to Ministry of Health involvement and a probe, which reveals 15 of 24 children in the two-year-old group was infected, with one hospitalized, and in the young group, one-year-olds, 15 of 18 were infected with one hospitalized.

Health Ministry officials on Wednesday, 7 Iyar, received the lab results from the children, confirming salmonella in one of the children. This led to an inspection of the daycare facility’s hygiene as it prepares breakfast and lunch in house. A number of deficiencies were found in the kitchen. A formal list was given to the director of the daycare center.

As part of the inspection, food samples were taken and salmonella was not found. However, the presence of another bacteria was found indicating poor hygiene in the kitchen, which led to intestinal illnesses.

It was also learned on Wednesday, that one of the moms a week earlier brought chicks into the daycare center and the children played with them. Officials report that direct contact with them could have led to salmonella if they were infected.
