For many, the upcoming yomtov is met with plans to shop for new garments and one’s favorite cheese cake, but for the growing number of families relying on tomchei shabbos for basic food staples, the two-day yomtov in Eretz Yisrael is more stress, more concern, and more tears as families try to find the means to put food on the table for shabbos and yomtov meals.
According to Chassdei Naomi, a major chessed organization that works to feed the poor, an astonishing 30,000 families have joined the ranks of tomchei shabbos since last Shavuos, those who are now in need of assistance to feed their families while in the past, some were among those contributing to help those in dire straits.
