Is PM Netanyahu Considering Removal Of Metal Detectors From Har Habayis?

Veteran Channel 2 News correspondent Moshe Nussbaum reports on Wednesday afternoon 25 Tammuz that Prime Minister Netanyahu is consulting with top security and intelligence officials, discussing the possibility of removing the metal detectors that were installed on Har Habayis a few short days ago.

The metal detectors were installed on Sunday following the murderous Islamic terror attack on Har Habayis. Two policemen were murdered in the attack and a third wounded.

In response to the Channel 2 report, officials in the Prime Minister’s Office stated there was indeed a telephone consultation. Security officials presented the situation and gave their position. However, jumping to conclusions regarding the prime minister’s thinking are simply incorrect.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports Netanyahu indicated he will not be making any changes to the placement of the metal detectors.

“There is no change regarding the metal detectors,” he told reporters in Budapest, Hungary.

Israeli media reported that security chiefs are at odds over the new devices. The Shin Bet reportedly opposes the metal detectors as counterproductive, while police support the new measures.

  1. As someone pointed out to me: the Arabs don’t seem to have a problem with the metal detectors placed at the office where they come to pick up their social security cheque!
