Kahlon: We Will Leave the Government If Netanyahu is Indicted

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon said on Thursday that: “If Netanyahu goes to trial, then he cannot continue to act as the Prime Minister.” This statement was made in direct contrast to his promise to Netanyahu that he would remain a part of the coalition until the elections in 2019.

In part of a live interview that was broadcast on Israeli media channels on Thursday evening, Kahlon also said: “There is one man and one law. That law states that the Attorney General will get to decide if there is enough evidence to try the Prime Minister in court. If that eventuality should come to pass, then the Prime Minister would no longer be able to be the Prime Minister under threat of legal action and a possible indictment. This was  my answer three months ago and I am reiterating it now in your studio.”

The Minister also responded to being asked about rumors that were being heard in the Likud party, stating that the Prime Minister could still function even if an indictment were forthcoming. When posed with this issue Kahlon responded by saying: “The Likud can say whatever they want. You asked me what the members of Kulanu feel. What is happening in the Likud party, you tell me… I have no idea.”

When asked if his party would leave the coalition should an indictment be brought against Netanyahu Kahlon answered in the affirmative.
