PHOTOS: Satmar Rebbe Of Williamsburg Distributes Over NIS 10 Million In Shekel Tahor Program In Eretz Yisrael

With the participation of the GAVAD Eida Chareidis HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss and dayanim of the Satmar community, a traditional “Shekel Tahor” event was hosted in Yerushalayim on Sunday, 9 Nissan, to benefit mosdos Satmar to continue to refuse to accept any financial assistance from the government and its agencies. Money was also distributed to avreichim from affiliated kollels. The Sighet Rov – who is a son of the Satmar rebbe of Williamsburg – arrived from New York on shlichus from his father.

In the hall of the Talmud Torah Satmar in Jerusalem, the traditional “Shekel Tahor ” was distributed, attended by some 150 directors of the chareidi educational institutions and 6,000 community members of the Satmar Tzibur. The amount distributed totaled about NIS 10 million.

The event was attended by the dayanim of the Satmar community, headed by the Gavaad, who in his speech welcomed all those involved in the project.

During the visit, the Sighet Rov arrived at the new Ohel Rachel Beis Medrash of the Satmar Chassidim in Jerusalem, which is currently under construction. They davened shachris there and was then updated on the construction progress.

Shortly thereafter, he visited the Oneg Shabbos V’Yomtov in Yerushalayim, under the leadership of HaRav Ephraim Stern, where they distribute pre-Yomtov food packages to tens of thousands of those in need, Yidden from all walks of life who simply come and ask, and they are given.

  1. Very interesting that he is called the Sigheter Rov. Of course, his grandfather the Beirach Moshe was called the Sigheter Rov before he became Satmar Rebbe, and it was unclear who would take over from the Divrei Yoel, or as we knew him, The Satmar Rov.
