Bennet Gives PM Netanyahu a Number of Days to Reach Agreement About Infiltrators

Bayit Yehudi party Chairman Naftali Bennett announced at a meeting of the party’s Knesset faction on Tuesday, 22 Iyar, that the party would delay the lifting of the Override Clause for a preliminary reading, in order to reach agreements within the coalition.

“In 2014, a good solution was implemented that began to remove the illegal infiltrators from the state at a fairly rapid pace, but the High Court of Justice canceled the law that allowed the solution; not only once but three times, leaving the residents and the country with a growing problem. That’s why we acted,” Bennet explains.

We built a solution package consisting of three sections: A) To enact the Override Clause. B) This is the basis for re-enacting the Prevention of Infiltration Law. C) This is the basis for reopening the open Holot detention facility, which allows life, but does not allow money to be earned, and that is how they actually agree to leave for a third country, without agreements.

“After three years in the government, and three postponements, we decided yesterday to raise the law to rise to the vote, and the law passed unanimously, with the support of the party ministers of all of us, the Likud, Yisrael Beitenu and Bayit Yehudi,” Bennett said, adding “This is a nationalist and responsible government, not extreme.”

Regarding another delay by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Bennet added, “The Prime Minister and Finance Minister state they need a few more days to reach agreement. Rabbosai, we say to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister we have brought the practical solution to get rid of the 20,000 infiltrators annually. If you have a different agreed upon solution to remove the infiltrators, please present it”.

If you have a practical and real solution to restrain the growing intervention of the legal system in the day-to-day running of the state, present it to us, we will support you. In the absence of any other solution, we expect you to proceed with the legislation of the Override Clause. We will continue to promote this, we will insist on the enactment of the law, but we will allow a few days to exhaust the agreements.

The Prime Minister signed coalition agreements with us, a commitment to pass this law, and therefore my expectation is to reach agreements, this is our responsibility towards the residents, for that we were elected.
