Former IDF soldier Elor Azariya, who was sentenced to 18-months imprisonment after being convicted of manslaughter, was released from prison Tuesday morning, 23 Iyar. His sentence was reduced by four months after he sent a letter requesting leniency from IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott.
The former soldier was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in jail for shooting a wounded Arab terrorist in Hebron not long after the terrorist stabbed a soldier. Azariya was a soldier serving in the Hebron area at the time. The court rejected the defenses contention that Azariya feared the wounded terrorist was armed.
Transportation Minister (Likud) Yisrael Katz is calling on President Reuven Rivlin to expunge Azariyas record to facilitate his effort to get on with his life.
