Sunday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


20:30 Saturday Night:

President Shimon Peres spoke with Rav Moshe Yosef to inquire into Rav Ovadia’s condition. The president stated “all of Am Yisrael is davening for his recovery.”

21:25 Saturday Night:

An Arab trying to bypass the separation fence near Metar in the S. Hebron Hills was shot in his lower extremities. After he failed to halt, they fired at him, striking him in the back. PA media sources report the 21-year-old male was killed by the gunfire.

04:00:

Security forces completed removing the Arab outpost established in the E1 area near Maale Adumim. Police report there were no arrests.

08:25:

Kinneret Authority officials report the level this morning registered at -211.07, showing an additional increase of 13cm (5.1 inches) since Thursday and 86cm (33.8 inches) since last erev shabbos. An additional 2.27 meters (7.4 feet) are required to reach the upper Red Line.

09:45:

A Jewish male reported Arabs stabbed him at the entrance to his Jerusalem home after he did not permit them to use his mobile phone. Police are investigating his story. He is reported in light condition with a leg wound at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

10:00:

A special urgent meeting is being held in the Shachar Junior High School in Hod HaSharon as a teacher confiscated and then returned a student’s phone. The 10th grader called his dad, who arrived promptly to teach the teacher a lesson, assaulting him.
