NIS 177,000 Compensation For Shmura Matza Injury

A young man was awarded NIS 177,000 in compensatory damages for a hand injury he sustained during pre-Pesach shmura matza baking four years ago. The amount awarded him was the result of a settlement reached between the sides.

A 30-year-old male arranged a matza-baking chaburah and his hand was crushed in a mixing machine in a Beit Shemesh facility. A lawsuit was filed seeking damages in the Jerusalem Magistrate Court and he was represented by attorney Gil and Nitzan Harel.

The chaburah stopped to clean machines between loads and the rav present found water on a dough mixer, instructing the young man to dry the rollers. He placed his hand it and suddenly, the machine started operating. The young man was transported to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. His situation became more complicated and eventually a second operation was needed and one of his fingers was amputated. He was awarded 25% disability for the left hand as a result of the accident as today, he only has limited use of his left hand.
