PM Netanyahu Phoned Chareidi Party Leaders

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu phoned chareidi party leaders to inform them he wishes to meet with them in the coming days as he enters coalition talks. He spoke with Eli Yishai, Aryeh Deri, Moshe Gafne, and Yaakov Litzman.

While Mr. Netanyahu is signaling he wishes to build a broad based coalition government, it is too early to know just what character the 19th Knesset coalition will reflect.

  1. I suspect conversation will go something like this: “of course I want you in the government, but you know, elections matter – so you are welcome to have a few deputy ministers, but don’t expect liberal funding for social programs, don’t expect any funding for yeshiva students unless they have been in the army, and I’ll try to make sure that yeshiva students who refuse to go into the army don’t get thrown in prison but no promises on the last one”

If the Hareidi politicians don’t agree, they can be the opposition.
