Military Court Extends Jail Time For Yeshiva Bochur Who Failed to Report to IDF Injunction Center

It was an afternoon of stormy protesting in Bnei Brak on Monday, as members and supporters of the Peleg Yerushalmi branch turned out, demanding the release of yeshiva bochur Nissan Raada, who was arrested by military police for failing to report to an IDF induction center – following the explicit and direct Shita of the Peleg.

Protests were held elsewhere in recent days as well, bringing the total number of arrests to over 70, with arrests made in Yerushalayim, Tzefas and Bnei Brak.

On Tuesday, 26 Menachem Av, a military court once again extended the remand of Raada, until this coming Sunday, 1 Elul. At that time, he will be arraigned again, and the norm is to continue extending his remand until such time the military prosecution files an indictment against him.

Raada was taken into custody when the vehicle driven by his father was stopped for an inspection and when his identity number was entered into a computer, it revealed he is wanted by military authorities.

The Peleg follows the Shita of Hagaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach ZATZAL who ruled that no one should register for the draft. All other Gedolim for the past 70 years have held that people should sign up for the draft, at which point they work on receiving an exemption from the IDF.

  1. If yeshiva bocherim were to become conscientious objectors, the secular would see them in a different light.
There are secular Jewish brethren supporting palesinian terrorists and no-one seem to jump up and down unless they are so called ultra orthodox who are pro Palestine then there is mayhem
The orthodox need a PR company to voice their view as to why they are objectors
I don’t agree with either however it seems like double standards to me

  2. In order to become a conscientious objector, one has to file for that status, as a full-time learner does in order to receive a deferment. If the Peleg rabbis would allow their followers to file for the one, why don’t they have them just file for the other, which they’re already entitled to?
