Lieberman Fires Back At Galei Tzahal & Naftali Bennet

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Wednesday had some harsh words for Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) for criticizing the plan to regulate he Gaza and for fighting against the candidacy of Major-General Yair Golan to become the IDF’s next chief of staff.

“As long as there is quiet, the residents of the Gaza Strip also benefit,” the minister said, adding that “if the violence returns, they are the first to lose, and this equation has been working.

Regarding the remarks of Minister Naftali Bennet of Bayit Yehudi, who attacked the apparent calm between Israel and Hamas and declared that his party’s ministers will vote against an Israeli temporary ceasefire plan, Lieberman said, “Criticism is a good thing – it indicates my strength. I do not have time to deal with nonsense like the song ‘Parole Parole’, let’s talk about serious things”.

Regarding the demand of some of the bereaved families not to choose Major-General Golan as the next chief of staff, Lieberman noted that “Golan said outrageous things – but apologized. He is one of the most courageous field generals – there is no place for campaigns against officers.”

In 2016, during a ceremony, Golan compared Israel today to Nazi Germany. His remarks led to harsh criticism as he said today, in Israel, there a re some parallels pertaining to what occurred in Nazi Germany.

  1. Mr. Bennett isn’t interested in peace and quiet. He’s interested in annexing the West Bank. Anything that promotes that politically, including rockets falling on Israel, is in his interest. What he’s going to do about all the Arabs living there isn’t something that bothers him. Let the BDSers rage – he’s impervious., partly because he assumes that the US will ride to the rescue with the cavalry if it gets too hot. This may be because, if I remember correctly, Mr. Bennett’s parents are American. (I wouldn’t be surprised if he has US citizenship as well as Israeli.) The world has changed, the US is not longer the undisputed Master of the Universe, and the right-wing in Israeli had better wake up and start thinking about realpolitik, instead of living in fantasyland.
