Jerusalem: Police Make Arrests While Carrying Out Demolition Order in East Jerusalem

The Israeli police arrested four suspects on Wednesday, 18 Elul, after they disturbed the peace as well as threatening and attacking police officers during an order to demolish a building in the eastern capital.

Police forces, border policemen and Yassam troops were on hand beginning with the early morning hours on Wednesday, as they began working as part of the required police assistance for the municipality in carrying out demolition orders against illegal structures.

At the beginning of the demolitions, dozens of Arab residents of the area began throwing stones and other objects at police and civilians who carried out the demolition of the illegal building, during which a policeman was injured and transported to a hospital with light injuries.

Police used non-lethal means to distance the rioters, leading to the arrests. After calm was restored, the demolition was carried out as planned.
