Eiland Warns of Imminent Escalation in Violence

Former National Security Advisor Giora Eiland warned on Sunday 14 Adar 5773 that the spreading violence in Yehuda and Shomron may signal the start of another wave of PA violence. Eiland blames a number of contributory factors for the renewed violence, including the ailing PA (Palestinian Authority) economy, price tag attacks, threatened Israeli construction in E1 and the ongoing Arab prisoner hunger strike.

He warns that the situation must be brought under control, beginning with the measures in Israel’s control such as announcing renewed construction in E1, which he feels was a strategic error.

In the PA officials report due to the dire fiscal situation they cannot pay salaries to 30,000 members of the police and security forces. In some bases, security personnel are not receiving meals the Israel Radio report adds. The report concludes many PA security officials are not reporting for work since they are not getting paid, seeking to work elsewhere towards earning a livelihood.
