Jerusalem Police Announces Preparations & Restrictions Pertaining To Yom Kippur


Jerusalem District Police announces it has completed preparations for erev Yom Kippur, involving many forces throughout the city, with an emphasis on the Old City and the Kosel.

Israeli police, border police, reinforcements and volunteers will deploy throughout the city on Tuesday, erev Yom Kippur, to maintain the public order and security of the thousands of mispallalim expected to arrive at the Kosel, and police volunteers will be equipped with weapons to protect shuls in their respective areas of residence.

On Monday, 8 Tishrei, the following roads will be blocked:

– The Old City and the entrance to the Old City (Yaffa Gate), except for the local residents.

– Derech Chaim Bar-Lev from the National HQ Junction to the south.

– Derech Chevron from HaChashmonaim northbound.

The public heading to the Old City and the Kosel is recommended to park in nearby parking lots (Mamilla, Karta, the train station, the Ammunition Hill parking lot and the National Headquarters) and arrive on public transportation that will be operating on an increased schedule.

The Israel Police, in cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality, will erect checkpoints along the main roads, including Uzi Narkiss, Chaim Bar-Lev and Derech Chevron, to prevent the movement of vehicles from eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods to the west of the city. Police and border police will be stationed near the checkpoints to prevent the removal of the checkpoints and will be deployed in neighborhoods and points of friction to prevent disturbances.

Vehicular traffic towards Har Habayis and the neighborhoods of the eastern capital from the north and south will be possible only as follows:

From north to south: University Boulevard, Wadi Joz, via Jericho, through the Ophel towards Har Habayis.

From East: From Tur to Shmuel Ben Adiya, via Jericho, through the Ophel towards Har Habayis.

From north to north: from Beit Safafa to Mazmuriya, Tzur Baher, Jabal Mukhaber, Silwan, the Ophel road, Har Habayis.

• Route 1 will close at the Arazim interchange towards Sakharov – the traffic will be directed towards Highway 9 and from there to the French Hill junction.

Roads to access hospitals:

Hadassah Ein Kerem: Begin, Kolitz, Givat Masua to Ora Junction and the descent to Ein Kerem.

Shaare Zedek: Shaar-Begin, Givat Mordechai, Shmuel Bait to Shaare Zedek.

Hadassah Mt. Scopus: University Blvd., Binyamin Mazar to the hospital.
