Erdan Orders Cancellation Of PA Event In The Eastern Capital

Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan issued a closure order for a commemoration event in the eastern capital funded by the PA (Palestine Authority).

Minister Erdan: “I will continue to act vigorously to prevent the violation of Israeli sovereignty in East Jerusalem by the Palestinian Authority.”

Minister of Public Security & Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan signed an order to close an event of the PA, which was supposed to take place today at the Dar a-Talef school in Jerusalem’s Wadi Joz neighborhood and ordered the Israel Police not to allow the event to take place in Jerusalem or anywhere else In Israel.

The event was supposed to take place under the auspices of the PA in memory of Husni al-Shehab, a Jordanian resident of Jordan, who after the Six-Day War worked to transfer schools to run under the Jordanian Waqf Authority.

The order instructs not to carry out the activity in East Jerusalem, in accordance with section 3(a) of the Implementation of the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Restriction of Activity) Law, 5754-1994, which prohibits the Palestinian Authority from opening or operating or a representation, or hold an assembly in within the State of Israel, and authorizes the Minister of Public Security to prohibit by means of an order, such activities.

This measure, the issuing of a closure order, was used by Erdan a number of times in recent years to prevent PA and anti-Israel events in the eastern capital, predominately Arab areas.

Minister Erdan: “The Palestinian Authority has stepped up its efforts in the past year to erode our sovereignty in Jerusalem and is working in various ways to establish facts on the ground.”
