Threats “Elad Will Burn Tonight” Following Arrest Of Prominent Degel Hatorah Askan

Elad has seen protests since Wednesday evening, when a Lod court announced it was disqualifying the candidacy of Yitzchak Pindrus, Degel Hatorah’s mayoral candidate in Elad. Protests took place during the night outside the home of Mayor Yisrael Porush, as Degel Hatorah supporters were angered over the court’s decision, since Degel is determined to unseat Porush, who is affiliated with Agudas Yisrael.

Moishe Rever, a prominent Degel askan, was arrested by police on Thursday on suspicion of inciting others to protest in the streets in response to the court’s ruling. Those protests did not have a police permit. Those in the know say that the arrest of Rever will lead to more protests, and it is known that police are going to request extending his remand at his arraignment hearing.

Kikar Shabbos News adds that some Degel supporters in Elad announced if Rever is not released by police, “Elad will burn tonight”.

It is added that Mayor Porush spent his morning in court, working to have the protestors who were arrested released. It is also added that Degel officials and attorneys on Thursday afternoon are working to prepare a petition to the High Court of Justice, challenging the Lod court decision to disqualify Pindrus as Degel’s mayoral candidate.

BeChadrei Chareidim reports that police planned to have him arraigned on Friday morning, but following a request by Rever’s attorney, the arraignment will take place in the coming hours in a Petach Tikvah court and his is likely to be released with restrictions.
