PHOTOS: Israel’s Social Workers Continue To Protest, Demanding Security At Work

Israel’s state-employed social workers continued protesting on Sunday, demanding increased security measures in facilities around the country following numerous attacks against members of the profession.

Protestors were in numerous locations Sunday morning, according the area of Jerusalem’s Chords Bridge, disrupting traffic in that area. They announced that on Monday, at 10:00AM, they will protest outside the Otzar Bank at 84 Hashmonaim Street in Tel Aviv.

The protestors continue calling on Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon and Welfare Minister Chaim Katz to allocate the necessary funds and to take the required measures to install security cameras in facilities as well as to hire security guards and taking other security-related measures to protect social workers. They have been protesting for weeks, but to date, their calls appear to be falling on deaf ears.

  1. The word play employed in this article is interesting. They “disrupted traffic in the area of the bridge.” Doesn’t sound too serious. In reality, it caused major traffic snafus. I”m not holding my breath for indignant commenters to post their wrath-filled remarks about selfish parasites who prevent people from getting to work, blocking ambulances, etc. All the standard phraseology. Although I’m not a peleg supporter, the double stardard in reporting “traffic disruptions” by different groups is blatant and jarring. In fact, the social workers really have very legitimate gripes. So, their protests are truly understandable. But, so do other groups. All demos and traffic blocking ought to be reported with the same detached objectivity without injecting emotion into the news item.
