Degel Hatorah and Agudas Yisrael remain divided in Yerushalayim, as the former is nearing entering the Jerusalem City Council coalition headed by Mayor Moshe Leon, while Agudas Yisrael is heading towards remaining in opposition. Agudah’s Vaad of Eight will convene and rule on the matter.
Leon met with Agudah’s negotiators last week, offering a deputy mayoral slot for the second half of the five-year term. The Vaad of Eight convened on Thursday, and decided the offer is insufficient. Vaad members also feel they less than satisfied with the coalition vis-à-vis matters of religion.
They are expected to meet with Leon again this week, and then the Vaad of Eight will convene again to make a final determination regarding Agudah’s place in the coming five years in Jerusalem City Hall.
