Knesset Finance Committee Approves NIS 1 Billion Over Objections From Opposition Party Members

The Knesset Finance Committee approved a budget of NIS 1 billion on Tuesday over the shouts of members of the opposition. Opposition members of the committee demanded that no vote be held regarding transfers in which coalition funds are included against the background of the election announcement, but those calls were rejected.

Under the pressure of the Finance Committee, the Health Ministry presented an arrangement according to which NIS 17 million would be transferred to rescue the Scottish hospital in Nazareth and the remaining funds to support other public hospitals for the years 2018-2019.

Committee Chairman MK Moshe Gafne welcomed the arrangement: “I do not like the fact that all the transfers were brought together at the last minute, but ministers are calling me who cannot function. Even during the election period, the Knesset Finance Committee will be asked regarding issues vital to the State of Israel.”
