Son A Candidate To Assume The Post As Chief Rabbi Of Herzliya Following The Recent Petira Of Rav Yitzchak Yechiel Yakabovich ZATAL


Following the recent petira of the Chief Rabbi of Herzliya, HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yechiel Yakabovich ZT”L, it is being announced that his son, HaGaon HaRav Mordechai Shlomo is a candidate to replace his father, who served in the post for 66 years.

Rav Mordechai Shlomo Yakabovich currently serves as a Ram in Yeshiva Otzar HaTorah in Jerusalem and mashgiach of the Sephardi Daat Chaim Yeshiva in Bayit Vegan. Rav Mordechai Shlomo is certified to serve as a Chief Rabbi of a City by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, as he completed this process during his father’s life, as his father made it known he wished to be succeeded by his son. In his will, Rav Yitzchak Yechiel also appointed Rav Mordechai Shlomo to assume the post of mora d’asra of Beit Knesset HaGadol on Ben-Gurion Street.

Rav Mordechai Shlomo was in Herzliya last Shabbos, and he served as a sandek, visited the Chinuch Atzmai yeshiva and giving a number of shiurim, filling in for his late father.

According to a Kikar Shabbos News report, the rav will relocate to Herzliya during the summer of 2019.
