In Rishon L’Tzion, Driving Teachers Drafted As Traffic Cops, Sort Of

The city of Rishon L’Tzion has launched a program involving 120 driving teachers, who the city feels spend a considerable amount of time on the road, and due to their profession and knowledge of traffic law, can act as an extension of law-enforcement vis-à-vis traffic enforcement.

Instructors who witness dangerous driving are instructed to submit details to a WhatsApp group and the information is passed along to a special city hotline and then dealt with by appropriate officials.

According to the Yisrael Hayom newspaper report, the city is hopeful that the additional manpower will result in safer roads in the city, as well as generating additional traffic-enforcement revenue.

One can only surmise this new program will likely lead to court appeals of traffic summonses based on driving instructor observer testimony.
