Municipal Inspectors Remove ‘Tznius’ Signs in Yerushalayim, Chareidi Residents Protests

City inspectors arrived in the Geula neighborhood of Jerusalem on Monday afternoon, at the intersection of Tzefanya and Ezra Streets, where signs requesting men and women passing through the area do not walk together. The inspectors came and tore down the signs, which resulted in a ruckus from angry neighborhood residents. The signs said “men” and “women”, and they were hung in the area of Beis Medrash Khal Prushim and Yeshivas Har Tzvi.

It appears that the secular MyNet Jerusalem newspaper did a writeup on the signs, and this led to the inspectors being directed to the area to remove them.

Meretz party Councilwoman Laura Walton responded to the local news site: “The issue is being handled in cooperation with the city’s counselor for the advancement of women, Orli Ben-Aharon, and we will not agree to violate the law and they [women] cannot be excluded from any place.”

When the signs were taken down by municipal inspectors, who came to the Old Kerem Avraham area, which is part of the Geula neighborhood, leading to dozens of chareidim gathering and they were audible in their protest over the removal of the signs.

  1. Those signs have been there for at least 30 years and the pathway is very narrow and not wide enough for 2 people to pass each other. It is also a completely chareidi area where there is no reason for a non frum person to have to pass through.

  2. This Laura Walton of the Sheretz party is a dangerous wicked woman who is out to fight Yiddishkeit, bring down the Chief-Rabbinate and introduce the filth of same-gender marriage into normal life.

  3. it is a small area around the Har Zvi shul, they request men walk on one side (the east) and women on the other side (west) so when they are davening, the men inside do not have to see women passing by.

Wait a few weeks and the signs will probably go back up.

  4. Attn: southerner
“good. women have the right to walk anywhere they please. this wasn’t in a shul davening. ridiculous”

The same way it is placing a limit on where the women can walk it is limiting the places that the men can walk as well…
