Chareidim Fire Back At Smotrich For Remarks Regarding Chareidi Rule Over The Chief Rabbinate Of Israel

The number two man on the Bayit Yehudi party (United Right-Wing) ticket is Betzalel Smotrich, who is the chairman of the Ichud Leumi faction. Smotrich earlier this week released a harsh statement in which he said, “Thirty years of chareidi control over the Rabbinate has led to Chilul Hashem”.

The response from Yahadut Hatorah MKs is an obvious one, as Smotrich, a religious MK, equates the chareidim with Chilul Hashem.

On Friday, after the Women of the Wall prayer at the Kosel, Smotrich said, “the Kosel should be preserved in accordance with halacha and custom set by the Chief Rabbinate.” At a conference held at the beginning of the week, Smotrich changed his views on the Chief Rabbinate and attacked it: “Thirty years of chareidi rule in the Chief Rabbinate has brought Chilul Hashem.”

In Yahadut Hatorah, they claim that Smotrich saw election polls, with some votes moving from Bayit Yehudi to Moshe Feiglin’s Zehut party, stating, “The polls caused a loss of values and irresponsible disregard for the Chief Rabbinate system,” and added that “Bezalel, at the moment of truth, will have to decide on values or polls.”

  1. The votes may be going from Smotrich to Feiglin, but I can assure you they are not going to the Haredi parties.
Smotrich is not the only one who recognizes Chillul HaShem. Mazal Tov on R. Yona Metzger’s release from jail.
