22 Peleg Protesters Who Were Arrested Have Been Released by Police


22 Peleg protesters, who took part in the Thursday evening Peleg protest in Jerusalem following the arrest by military police of a Yeshiva Bochur, have been released by police. Peleg officials add the bochur who was injured when a mounted unit slipped is being released home.

Hundreds of Peleg Yerushalmi protesters took to the streets of Jerusalem on Tuesday evening, shutting down the area of Sarei Yisrael and Yaffo Streets, bringing a half to light rail service from Shar Shechem to Har Herzl as well as significantly interrupting bus service from areas of the city to the central bus station. Needless to say, major traffic delays resulted as well.

During the protest, 22 persons were arrested by police for disturbing the peace. In truth, the protest received far less media coverage in Israel that it usually would due to the widespread violent protests of the Ethiopian community, which held protests around the country. Those protests undoubtedly dominated the Israeli news as they set police vehicles on fire and cause additional considerable property damage.

The 22 persons arrested were released during the night and Wednesday morning, some with restriction surrounding their release.

The latest Peleg protest was sparked by the arrest of 19-year-old talmid Mordechai Kitov of Yeshivas Meiras Shmuah in Ashdod, which is affiliated with the Peleg. He is the son of Beit Shemesh Councilman Malachi Kitov.

The 16-year-old taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital is being released. He was injured when a mounted policeman and his horse slipped at the protest. B’chasdei Hashem, the young man is fine and being released from the hospital.
