Indictment Against Youth Who Fired an Air Gun at Yair Lapid


A criminal indictment has been filed against a 16-year-old male who fired a pellet gun at a Yair Lapid and his supporters during a political rally in Rehovot. Two persons were injured.

The indictment was filed on Tuesday against the minor, who fired the air gun during a political rally held in Rehovot last thursday. The event was attended by about 150 people including MK Yair Lapid, who holds the second slot on the Blue & White party lineup. According to one eyewitness account, a white vehicle passed by while Yair Lapid was addressing the crowd and shots were fired from the “toy gun”. Two youths were injured, in a knee and hand. The injuries were described as “extremely light”. They filed a complaint with Rehovot police.

After the rally, the search for the shooter began and it did not take too long to identify the vehicle from surveillance cameras. This led to the apprehension of the suspects. Two persons were taken into custody but only one was indicted.

When the young man learned his actions made the news, he dumped the gun in bushes in Nes Tziona and erased text messages from his phone dealing with his actions.

The suspect is under house arrest with additional restrictions and he faces charges including assault, unruly conduct in a public venue and interfering with a police investigation.
