City Sanitation Workers Cleaned Machane Yehuda on Shabbos

There are reports that Jerusalem sanitation workers on Friday night, at 9:30PM, were cleaning up cartons and washing down the floors of Machane Yehuda. According to Jerusalem City Hall, there is nothing new taking place and the city observes the religious status quo.

City officials explain, “In accordance with the status quo, during Shabbos, targeted cleaning was conducted in the city center by non-Jewish workers only, manual sweepers, and without the use of garbage trucks and mechanized cleaning machines”.

YWN-Israel adds it has seen cleaning taking place in the shuk on Shabbos, and employees were Arab as indicated in the city’s press release. They were using water hoses to clean the area which only shuts down close to candle lighting time.
