Some Likud Ministers are Trying to Sit on the Fence

Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, will not be backing Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu or Gideon Saar in the upcoming party primaries.

According to a TV News12 report, the two have decided not to endorse either candidate in the upcoming race for the Likud party leadership. For one thing, MKs from the party realize the issues with backing a candidate who is facing criminal indictments, in this case, PM Netanyahu.

It is noted that the fact that Erdan and Edelstein are not going to back Netanyahu in the race reinforces rumors about Likud MKs who choose not to support Netanyahu, for the same reason mentioned; since there is a real issue backing a candidate who according to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, will be indicted in a number of criminal cases.

In this case, both Erdan and Edelstein are extremely popular among members of the Likud Central Committee. The two are joined by other party MKs; MK Nati Atiya, who announced she is backing Saar; MK Sharron Haskel, who is number 30 on the party list, and has informed Netanyahu she will be backing his opponent.

  1. Seems like the same unprincipled inability of the Rs to risk going against Trump has infected these Likudniks. The first and last rule of politics is to survive so you can continue to evade tough decisions.
