Hadash Party leader MK Mohammad Barakeh was questioned by police on Tuesday after they almost a one-year delay. Only following the intervention of Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik did Barakeh arrange to meet police for questioning.
The Arab lawmaker accused police of being politically motivated in their actions, seemingly trying to make light of accusations that he was involved in two different assaults, one against a policeman and the second involving a civilian, both occurring in 2006 during protests against the Second Lebanon War.
Right-wing activists were on hand Tuesday when Barakeh arrived at Jerusalem’s Russian Compound police station, heckling him and shouting epithets such as “traitor” at him.
