Israel: Cofix Launch Results in Anti Trust Probe

cofixThe recent launch of Tel Avivs Cofix, Israels first no-frills 5 NIS cup of coffee has sparked fears of industry price fixing.

The Antitrust Authority is examining suspicion of price fixing by cafe chains following the announced 5 NIS cup of coffee, about 8-10 NIS less than the equivalent size coffee in nationwide chains. Allegations point to the owners of large competing chains around the country fixing their new lower prices in response to the Cofix reality.

Globes reports that Caf Caf owner Ronen Namani says “We have a coffee that costs 4-4.50 NIS a cup, including milk. It’s not possible to sell good coffee or a croissant for 5 NIS.
