Internet With a Belz Hechsher

kosher.jpgThe secular media is having a field day with varying reports that include the Belze Rebbe Shlita has given the green light for chassidim to connect to the internet.

While there is a modicum of accuracy in the report, the Rebbe has not come out in favor of the internet, but the Rebbe has come to the realization that some chassidim demand email and connectivity to earn a livelihood, prompting the Rebbe’s attention towards finding a kosher solution.

In steps Internet Rimon, claiming unprecedented software which filters at the ISP (Internet Service Provider) end to ensure there is no exposure to to’eva.

According to the firm’s general-manager, Kobi Hacker, there has never been comparable technology, explaining his firm will on 99.9% of the time manage to strip unsuitable content from a news site and have it running in ‘real time’. Admittedly he stated, here and there one may be delayed by several fractions of seconds, demanding one refresh a page to view content. He promises however than an unfiltered site will never be displayed in one’s home.

While acknowledging there have been others firms involved in internet filtering services, Hacker explained that most filtering services restrict too many sites to permit one to really access the internet and work as required.

The Vaad Rabbanim L’Tikshoret (Rabbinical Communications Committee) of Belz Machzikei Hadas has called on chassidim requiring email and internet to connect to the Rimon ISP service providing filtering of content on a level that has not yet been achieved by other firms.

Rav Yaakov Nachman, the secretary of the vaad, began distributing notices in Belz communities that one bringing the threat of open unfiltered internet into one’s home is exposing his household to serious threats. The rav points out that even with Rimon the threats are not totally eliminated, and therefore, only those requiring connectivity should be connected. That said — the system he explains does permit one to be connected while still “remaining Jews”.

The notices also state that the ‘hechsher’ only applies to Rimon and to certain supervised packages. Therefore, one must be aware of the realities before signing up and selecting a package.

  1. The belzer Rebbe comes up with all these good ideas.Since he is related to viznitz and satmar, why dont we get him on the board for all these chassidus, and come up with good ideas for everyone.h

  2. the betzer rebbe should be applauded of not being narrow minded. he takes out something from all chassidus, and makes it his own.such as daf yomi, and vacation in the winter for children, doing singing curriculum in the school, giving out tapes of thechassidus nigunim. I’m not a chassid yet, but if i do become a chassid, i would choose belz.Kudos to him!

  3. I have actually been in the Rimon offices and if there is any internet that anyone should use it is theirs. Their software searches at the packet level (for those who understand this) as well as they have people 24/6 checking every single image that a user requests to see.

  4. #3- why are you smarter than the belzer rebbe? If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for me. If you want to go even more than that, dont use it. i wonder if you really dont use the internet.

  5. the belzer rebbi is a rebbe living in the real world.even if the proposed and operational internet is only 99.9% accurate , in due course, it will become 100%. i remember years ago that television was out on the isser list, prople use to have them in their closets to protect themselves frompublic abuse.now the frum public have an option. i think in due course all of the chasidem will come around , however, they will put an isser on watching a different rebbe’s internet.

  6. Most Chassidisha Rebbes allow internet & e-mail for the chassidim that REALLY need it for parnosso, as long as it’s filtered. Like J-Net etc. If a person ants his child to be accepted into a frum mosdos, he MUST be approved… internet ONLY if okayed.
What exactly is the Belzer Rebbe Shlita saying differently now?

  7. He doesn’t need a Haskomoh from anyone like me, but HaRav Shach called the Belzer Rebbe “Der Kliger Rebbe”.

  8. let every one mind thier own business, and just keep in mind that belz is one of the most beautiful kehilos in the entire world, obviously the belzer rebbe must be doing something right or he just has alot of siata diashmaya

  9. #10…nothing against the Belzer rebbe, but the reason Rav Schach said it was because he was the ONLY chassidishe rebbe that joined him at the time of “bechiros”…remember the Lubavitcher vs Rav Shach…

  10. TO #2 GIMPEL Kolhkavod to you for haveing open eyes and realising that there are still around GDOLEI HDOR that live in todays life and not in the passt.and the most off all that you took a step ahed by making a kiddush hashem & giving KAVOD to the rebbe and that’s what a CHASSID is about seeing that what his rebbe is doing is SIATA DISHMAYA like #12 menchend wisely and yes 99.9% is good anough for us if it is good for the BELZER REBBE SHLIT”A .
TO #6 I was thinking the samre thing “HACKER” its funny i’ll say 🙂

  11. I do not belive the belzer rebba gave a genral heter to the internet because he is much smarter than that if it is true he should be asshamed of himself and become oish rebba

  12. funny45, NeveAliza and the others, read the article a little more carefully. The 99.9% refers to the percentage of time Rimon will manage to strip unsuitable content from a news site and have it running in ‘real time’. The company promises however than an unfiltered site will never be displayed in one’s home. Never means 100%. Whether they can deliver on their promise is another thing but the Belzer Rebbe is permitting Internet access for those who need it for parnosa on the basis that an unfiltered site will NEVER be displayed in one’s home, not possibly 0.1% of the time.

  13. Remember, there are two types of dangers:

    1. Normal pictures from normal site that the outside world see as normal (short sleeves, low neckline, etc.) and

    2. The real pritzus.

If you get #1 .01% of the time (and I know what #16 said, but I’m saying even if) it’s no different than walking down the street, you just don’t look. If you’re getting #2, you’re either trying to, or you have a virus/spyware. It should be pointed out that even with this, without proper virus and spyware protection (and this doesn’t mean having the version from 1995 either, but the one you paid for within the past twelve months) you can still get a virus or adware that these filters can’t help.

  14. i think there is a problem with people, especially those who waste time on yeshivaworld, feeling comfortable starting up with daas torah

  15. #18, I couldn’t agree more. what is it with these people: ahem excuse me but are you belz?, #11, asks. Don’t you have enough people despising you in the world without this contest you create, who is the best chassidus, group, etc. You are so focused on labels and groups. How do you think the world sees the label called “Jews”???????? Shfoch Chameschah Al HaGoyim. What’s wrong with you? You’re a little, petty, uneducated twit. Hows that for a group to put you in ? Because that’s how I classify haters and morons like you.
