The cabinet this week approved the appointment of Avigdor Ochana as the new director-general in the Ministry of Religious Services. During the past two years, the Shas-affiliated Ochana was working side-by-side with the minister, Yitzchak Cohen, also from Shas.

Cohen tried appointing Ochana to the post from the beginning of his tenure but the cabinet only approved the position this week.
