Arab Candidate Enters Jerusalem Mayor Race

Zohir Hamdan has announced he is entering the Jerusalem mayoral race, the only candidate from the Arab community.

The 53-year-old candidate is the muchtar (town leader) of the Tzur Bachar area of Jerusalem; he has three wives, and 18 children. He announced proudly that if elected, he will not permit the to’eva parade as was done by his Jewish predecessors.

Zohir was born in Jordan and moved to Israel from Lebanon in 1974. In 2001, he spent two months in a hospital after being shot by Fatah Tanzim terrorists for maintaining too close a relationship with Jews.

Regarding talks with the PA (Palestinian Authority), he stated he is uninterested in a dialogue with the PA and he simply does not care if they are angry. He added he does not have any plans for dividing Jerusalem, which he explains were taken from Jordan in 1967, so if anyone has such plans, they should be directed to Jordan, not the PA.

  1. he sounds like an interesting candidate.it would be a ‘shanda’ if an arab became the city mayor; however , its a bigger ‘shanda’ if the ‘toeva’ parade is allowed.
