British Ambassador to Israel Tom Phillips delivered 2,000 Rosh Hashanah cards sent from UK residents to captive IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. The cards were given to a representative of the International Red Cross in the hope they will somehow reach Shalit who is believed to be held by Hamas in Hamas-controlled Gaza. 
 
Political leaders in the UK also sent cards, taking part in the event, as did British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
