Haaretz To Compensate Jewish Shepherd From The Shomron

Haaretz has agreed to pay 8,000 shekels in compensation to a young shepherd from the Shomron after publishing his photograph in an article with criminal implications without the consent of his parents, Arutz Sheva reported.

The payment is part of a settlement reached between the parties following a legal demand submitted by Attorney Chaim Bleicher of the Honenu legal aid organization. In his claim, Bleicher demanded that the newspaper remove the image and pay 30,000 shekels in damages to the minor.

The article in question, published on Haaretz’s website, was titled “An army of minors, some of them at-risk youth, is terrorizing Palestinians in the West Bank.” It featured a clear, identifiable image of the teen without any facial blurring.

Attorney Bleicher stated that publishing the photograph constituted a legal violation, infringing upon the minor’s right to privacy and falsely associating him with criminal activity in which he had no involvement.

He added that the publication of the teen’s picture in an article linking minors to acts of violence, while showing his face clearly, conveyed a damaging and misleading impression that harmed his good name.
