In the latest stunning breach of national security, three Israeli soldiers and a civilian have been indicted for allegedly carrying out a series of espionage missions on behalf of Iranian intelligence.

The suspects, who were arrested in March following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet security service, the IDF’s Unit 8200, and various police units, are accused of documenting sensitive sites across the country, including train stations, shopping centers, and the Israeli Air Force’s Technological College in Haifa.

According to the police statement, the soldiers were acting under the direction of an Iranian handler even before their enlistment, with one of the suspects allegedly recruiting the others.

The indictment, filed by the Haifa District Prosecutor’s Office, paints a disturbing picture of the suspects’ alleged activities. In addition to the photography missions, some of the defendants allegedly approached their handler on their own initiative, offering to carry out additional security-related tasks and even vandalize property.

Perhaps most alarmingly, the suspects were allegedly asked to acquire weaponry, though it remains unclear if they were successful in doing so.

The suspects, who have not been named, are expected to face a lengthy legal process as investigators continue to assess the full scope of the alleged damage to national security.
