Trump Insists Iran Talks ‘Are Continuing, At Rapid Pace’

President Donald Trump announced Monday that negotiations between the United States and Iran are continuing “at a rapid pace,” signaling that diplomatic efforts remain on track despite reports from Tehran suggesting the talks were in jeopardy.

“Talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The statement came shortly after Trump announced what he described as a new ceasefire arrangement between Israel and Hezbollah, claiming that both sides had agreed to halt attacks following separate contacts with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives through intermediaries.

Trump’s comments appeared aimed at reassuring observers that negotiations with Iran remain alive despite mounting regional tensions and reports from Iranian state-linked media that Tehran was considering suspending talks.

Earlier Monday, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran was halting indirect negotiations with the United States in protest of Israeli military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The report claimed Iran viewed the ongoing Israeli campaign as incompatible with continued diplomatic engagement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned that Lebanon must be considered part of the broader ceasefire framework between Washington and Tehran.

“The United States and Israel bear responsibility for the consequences of any breach of the truce,” Araghchi said.

The sequence of events underscores Iran’s continued efforts to link developments in Lebanon with negotiations over its nuclear program and broader regional issues.

For months, the United States has sought to treat the Iran negotiations and the conflict with Hezbollah as separate matters. Tehran, however, has repeatedly sought to tie the two together, viewing Hezbollah as one of its most important regional proxies and a key component of its influence throughout the Middle East.

Despite the public threats and conflicting statements, Trump’s latest remarks suggest the administration believes diplomacy remains viable and that negotiations are continuing behind the scenes.
