Rockets Rain Down On Ashkelon; One Dead, Many Injured [UPDATED 10:35AM IL]


mdan.jpg[ALL UPDATES BELOW] 9:31AM IL: An unspecified number of rockets landed in Ashkelon a short time ago. According to preliminary reports, a number of people have been injured with at least one in serious condition.

9:34AM IL: It is now being reported that eight people have been injured in the Ashkelon attack. A Grad Katyusha rocket struck a building site a short time ago. MDA personnel are operating on the scene.

9:36AM IL: It now appears that one person has been killed and seven injured in a Katyusha rocket attack in Ashkelon a short time ago. More to follow.

9:39AM IL: It now appears there are 15 people injured in the Ashkelon rocket attack. They are reported in moderate and light condition. There is one fatality on the scene. May people are in hysterics.

9:41AM IL: According to MDA Emergency Medical Service officials, the rocket attack in Ashkelon was on a building site. MDA Director Eli Bin reports CPR is being performed on one victim while four others are in moderate condition and the remainder light. There are also many people who are hysterical.

Ashkelon Mayor Benny Vaknin reports he was in the area and arrived shortly after the Katyusha rockets landed. Vaknin praises the immediate response of MDA ambulances and confirms one person is dead on the scene and others are in serious condition.

9:49AM IL: The following update is from Leah Malul, spokeswoman for Ashkelon’s Barzilai Hospital – One person was killed in the rocket attack  a short time ago. Three victims are in serious condition, five moderate, and two hysterical. Ambulances continue to arrive at this time and it appears there are more victims. Additional information to follow as well as the hospital’s hotline information number which is being activated at this time.

9:51AM IL: It appears the dead and wounded in the Ashkelon attack are Arab construction workers, many or all from the north.

10:14AM IL: Additional rockets land in Ashkelon. No injuries.

10:28AM IL: Barzilai Hospital has activated an emergency hotline information number – 12-55-171.

10:32AM IL: The victims of the Ashkelon Katyusha rocket attack are Arab construction workers from Rahat and northern areas including Kafr Manda.

10:35AM IL: Barzilai Hospital – 17 victims of the rocket attack have been admitted with 5 listed in serious condition and the remainder light.
