Justice Rivlin: Image is Part of the Reason for Apathy Among Voters

Supreme Court Justice Eliezer Rivlin, in his capacity as Central Elections Committee Chairman, is concerned over what appears to be an unprecedented level of apathy among voters. Rivlin blames this in no small part to the tarnished image of many politicians and the political arena in Israel. Another major factor he explains is the feeling among voters that parties promise a great deal but in actuality, deliver very little resembling campaign commitments.

When asked by the daily Yisrael HaYom newspaper if he enjoys the break from his judicial duties to fill the position, he responded positively, explaining that during the year, he and his colleagues are locked in chambers, in their own world, and this position presents an opportunity for “authentic mingling” with the public and politicians, adding it is a “break from the responsibility of his judicial duties,” which include some very difficult rulings that carry much weight.
